Would it be possible to briefly go over your E&M leveling tool? Where I work, the providers level the visits. I code all diagnosis codes and ad the appropriate modifiers. So I'm really weak on being able to level E&M

Also, I'm a medical coder for a hospital. The providers often uses diagnosis code "DVT prophylaxis". I can't seem to find this dx code. Please help

I suggest you look through V07 - V09, Persons with Need for Isolation, Other Potential Health Hazards and Prophylactic Measures. Perhaps V07.8: Other specified prophylactic or treatment measure, would fit?

Also, check out this video:

Both E/M leveling and DVT Prophylaxis were discussed during the Oct 2014 Q&A Webinar.

Laureen Jandroep went over her technique on how to mark up the CPT manual E/M codes to highlight how to locate the "HEM in time" which she also teaches on the Blitz Review Videos. The CCO Club members get access to her answer sheets, exercises, and exercise answers in the Replay materials for October 2014 (when it is available).

If you missed the webinar, it is a great idea to sign up for the CCO Club. That way you will get access to the recording of the webinar, conveniently divided into video clips by topic. You also get the transcript, answer sheets, and a chance to earn a CEU for the webinar by passing a 10 question quiz. Not only that, but you can access all the available resources for past webinars, too!

Alicia Scott, during the same webinar, discussed the category II codes, Therapeutic, Preventive or Other Interventions, specifically, Category II code 4070F - Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prophylaxis received by end of hospital day 2.

Subscribe to youtube.com/medicalcodingcert/ if you don't want to miss the video clips when these are available!
